Spirit Primer
Domain
Each Spirit has a Domain which influences its wants and desires. This Domain is comprised of one to three Concepts, which are singular words of phrases describing something specific. "Ærakk’r of the Wastes, the Smithing of Blades, and the Disillusionment of Man" is one example, but a Spirit might simply be an "Aeris Spirit of Baking" that lives in an oven and imparts its Crest upon everything a clueless chef it respects might cook. Domains form and evolve naturally over many years, often through emotional turmoil or profound expressions of Metaphor.
- Mystics are able to form a general sense for a Domain, provided their Mysticism is equivalent to the Spirit's Challenge Rating. Others might simply know due to the relative fame or stories surrounding individual Spirits.
Personality
Each individual Spirit is a semi-intelligent and amorphous entity, its mind alien and closely aligned with Metaphor yet incapable of speech without an Effigy possessing the proper Trait. They tend to be stubborn or chaotic, lacking a deeper understanding beyond an emotional association with their Domain without the Skills or Traits of a powerful Effigy to dictate and give context to what they /do/ understand. People who form relationships with these beings must spend substantial amounts of time catering to their whims, deducing unmet needs or stressors which they cannot communicate.
Like animals, the dominant Numen within an area will lay claim to a range of territory, enforcing their desires upon the area through manifestations of Arcana or actions of toil, violence, or nurturing. Such beings are incredibly dangerous, capable of striking with Porosis alongside hundreds, even thousands of subordinate spirits. While each other Plane is only home to Spirits of its own Metaphor, Antarok is the exception as Fabula naturally warps to accommodate, feed, and grow these beings which are sometimes referred to as gods by the people who live alongside them.
Death
When Numen can no longer survive as an Effigy, they shatter into a rush of Metaphor, whispers, and feelings imparted upon those nearby. They will merge with the territory of a Spirit sharing their Domain where they persist as a Pneuma - a disembodied Spirit - absorbing ambient Metaphor until they rise again with an Effigy. Unless they are a newborn convalescence of Metaphor, Spirits retain their Domains and possess memories of what they once were; many hold dangerous biases, even traumas, with vast sums of knowledge to do with their former home or associations. However, they struggle to parse this together in any actionable way beyond an emotional response.
Effigy
Each Numen possesses an Effigy describing its Biology, Size, Skills, Arcana, Traits, Cantrips, and Default Frequency.
- Each individual Effigy should carry at least a vague thematic association with its Metaphor or the Plane it is from.
- Effigies have an Effigy Price which determines its cost in other material such as Summoning, Mysticism, or utilizing one with Seasonal Points.
- Effigies have a Challenge Rating equal to their highest-tier Skill, Cantrip, Personal Arcana, or size category.
- Effigies can possess any same-Metaphor Arcana or Cantrip, including Variants if forming in a region where that Variant is common.

Archetypes
All of the spirits within each family can be sorted into the following Archetypes.
Cambion
Spirits with souls and predefined Effigies. Skills & Arcana.
Pneuma
Disembodied spirits of inconsequence, Pneuma are incorporeal motes of Metaphor within the territory of a powerful Numen, or else they are pulled into their own Plane where they slowly form an Effigy should they absorb enough Metaphor over many years. Certain forms of Arcana such as Summoning interact with Pneuma.
Numen
Spirits whom have formed Effigies, Numen
Arche
Overlords of a Plane, the Arches are Primal Numen or else the entities which have overthrown them. They possess spiritual sovereignty over an entire Plane; not all Numen nor Cambion answer to their Arche, though all of them feel a sense of deference when communicating with them.
Becoming an Arche
Those who Ascend in a Pact and another same-metaphor Arcana are qualified to become the Arche of that Plane. This entails spending one further Major Merit, and going on a quest to mantle that Arche. This is often an impossible task, as Arches are usually ancient beings with several Major Merits worth of ability whom then command an army of Spirits and devout. Usually defeating one by oneself is out of the question, but a good idea for vanquishing them or getting them to step aside in a grander plot is a possibility.
- Planar Arches spend 1/2 the Spell Reserves when casting Arcana matching the Metaphor of their Pact, and may learn to expand the function of its spells in novel ways.
- Any Personal Arcana wielded by an Arche is altered to function with their Metaphor, creating Variant Arcana they might share with another. These Variants must be submitted to the wiki.
- The Primal Arches of a Plane such as the Leviathan become Pneuma when they are defeated until they can coalesce elsewhere over the next year; they are vulnerable to being sought out and Mantled at that time.

Play Rules
Spirits may be found in remote regions of the world, fought or contracted by Mystics, and bound by Summoners who call upon them. Spirits may be devised, included, fought, befriended, and destroyed in plots with respect to the local Regional Storyteller's written material for how Spirits behave in that region.
- Arches such as Lævos may be portrayed with consultation by a Regional Storyteller responsible for them, or else a Global Storyteller.
Should a Player Character benefit from having a Numen tag along as a befriended NPC or Possessing one semi-permanently without a Contract or the binding of a Summoner, pay a Seasonal Points cost equal to its Effigy Price multiplied by its Challenge Rating Multiplier (rounded up) once each season where it is used in plots:
- CR1: x3
- CR2: x9
- CR3: x27
- CR4: x81
- CR5: x243
- CR6: x729
- Major Merited Titles: Certain Major Merited Titles fashioned by Regional Storytellers might confer a relationship with a Numen at no additional cost.
- Arches: Arches spend 1/2 Seasonal Points on owned Numen.
Example: A 6" tall CR1 Numen with an Effigy Price of 0.66 would cost just 2 SP (3 x 0.66). A 60' tall CR6 Numen with an Effigy Price of 8.51 would cost 6,203 SP (729 x 8.51) each season.
