Variant: Krakon
Krakon are Dragons which have had their Grist warped by Imber. Either their mother is a Krakon, or they are turned so by Lævos, Arche of Lacon, Krakon see their Grist turn to Encaustum; their expanded capacity for Saol Spell Reserves transitions to that of Imber. The Krakon always resembles some form of life dependent on water for survival, as they may only Embody such fauna or flora. Krakon:
Abilities
Krakon do not have metallic-grade hides like their cousins; rather, theirs is akin to the mundane species of fauna or flora they are derived from layered over a salamander-like biology; they are able to regenerate from injuries including amputated limbs or injured organs slowly over the course of a month if allowed to rest. So long as the brain and Encaustum throat-organs remain intact, Krakon could otherwise survive being mangled and gored beyond recognition.
- Living nigh-exclusively beneath the waves, a Krakon feels discomfort without a high degree of humidity; its skin dries easily unless it Embodies a species known for weathering dry spells.
- Beings of Imber, Krakon possess Incited Encaustum, naturally forming the Pact of Fathom at some point in their lives. Those who Embody a form of sea flora might Incite Coreadh within themselves.
Psychology
The most savage variant of Dragon, Krakon experience a cat-like drive to maim and devour prey. Some are able to channel this desire into knowledge or what they Seek, but this desire always peeks through the surface of their gaze like dangerous ripples in a pond.
History
Wrought by Lævos when Cor'Norai settled the coral reefs along the coasts and shallow seas of Lacon, Krakon are what became of sea dragons who challenged the Arche and His ælven children for sovereignty over these coveted territories. Subjugated, warped by Imber, and then released to reintegrate back into the natural order, some Krakon but not all work alongside the Cor'Norai to further the aims of their more ambitious brethren.
Krakon loyal to Lævos consider the Arche to be their true father, and their patron god. They are a very young species; there are no Ancient Krakon, and there are only a handful of Elders at that.
Additional Information
- Krakon may only Govern Imber, and to be Dragonbound to one requires the aid of Lævos; this will confer Imber Spell Reserves rather than Saol.
- Krakon age and grow in the same way as a Dragon; how they appear is similar, if warped by their Encaustum.
- Using the Imber Predation of their Encaustum, a Krakon may consume the Imber within the brain of an elder Krakon to advance its age like a Dragon, but cannot consume the Saol from a Dragon and vice versa.
- Like the Dracolych, Krakon and Dragons initially revile each other, as both can sense their differences in Grist.
- The Encaustum of a Krakon may be granted or stolen, allowing other races to become Krakon; there are several Cor'Norai who have become Krakon.
- A Krakon may become a Dracolych, but it will only Govern Imber while being subjected to the same resentment the living dead face.
- Krakon-Dragon interbreeding will result in a whelp of the mother's species, but they are much more likely to Govern Imber and Embody or Seek oceanic topics, predatory concepts, or knowledge.
- Krakon which Embody a form of sea flora or coral may naturally develop Coreadh.
- Nearly every Krakon will eventually learn Fathom by spending a Minor Merit; Inciting it happens automatically upon becoming an Adult Krakon, and this must be paid for.
