Overview
Challenge Rating is a difficulty classification system for flora and fauna on Antarok, used to determine the SP cost of encounters or the skill level required to utilize certain aspects of the plant or animal.
Encounter Rules
Rules related to encountering Fauna & Flora in your plots.
Fauna
Fauna have a challenge rating from 0 to 6 indicating the suggested skill level for combatants, animal handlers, and Animists when dealing with them. Challenge Rating is also used by Changelings for shapeshifting, or Maltricians to indicate the required level of skill to implant limbs and organs from that animal. From CR5 onward, it costs Seasonal Points to obtain any benefit from fauna.
CR0 - Pest
- Small Insects, tiny pests like mice. At worst, these animals spread disease or cause infrastructure damage.
CR1 - Least Concern
- Fauna which could present a challenge to a Novice combatant. Medium sized birds such as eagles, rabbits, cats, and foxes. Domesticated medium-sized livestock such as pigs, and sheep.
CR2 - Rarely Dangerous
- Fauna which could present a challenge to an Apprentice combatant. Deer and wolves. Domesticated large livestock such as cows and horses.
CR3 - Circumstantially Lethal
- Fauna which could present a challenge for a Journeyman combatant. Large animals such as moose and alligators. Small animals with Glamour organs.
CR4 - Lethal
- Fauna able to challenge Expert combatants. Tigers, Lions, Elephants. Medium animals with Glamour organs.
- Apex predators able to challenge Master combat skills. Mythological reptiles and chimerae such as wyverns or manticore. Large animals with Glamour organs. To obtain any benefit from one of these such as taking a magical hide or its Seeming form, taking it on as an Animal Familiar, obtaining its Beast Magic, or Raising it as an undead, one will need to spend 810 SP to do so. This cost may be split between multiple Player Characters looking to take one on.
CR6 - Legendary
- Legendary fauna beyond classification, often immortal remnants from when the world was young. To obtain any benefit from one of these such as taking a magical hide or its Seeming form, taking it on as an Animal Familiar, obtaining its Beast Magic, or Raising it as an undead, one will need to spend 2,430 SP to do so. This cost may be split between multiple Player Characters looking to take one on.

Beast Magic
Fauna sometimes have Glamour abilities which may be expanded into Beast Magic write-up. This is known as Wild Glamour, usable by Animists and Maltricians.
Flora
Flora have a challenge rating from 1 to 6 indicating the suggested skill level for those seeking to utilize them with the Medicine skill, which also handles poisons and herbalist remedies. Alchemists would follow this rating as well. Finding them would be Field Craft, and gardening or farming with them would be Ranching. Draoidh would be able to Florabind to any tier of plant, but cannot use Flora Magic from that plant unless they are of that skill level.
CR1 - No Use
- Novice skills to utilize.
CR2 - Rarely Dangerous or Useful
- Apprentice skills to utilize.
CR3 - Circumstantially Lethal or Useful
- Journeyman skills to utilize.
CR4 - Lethal or Useful
- Expert skills to utilize.
- Master skills to utilize.
CR6 - Legendary
- Grandmaster skills to utilize.

Flora Magic
Flora such as plants, fungi, or coral sometimes have Saol abilities known as Flora Magic, expandable into write-ups with XP costs. Draoidh or its variants, Vitæ or similar variants, and Practices might make use of these. Alchemists can make use of most Flora Magic by adding it to Alkemicals for the creation of Contrivances.
