Förengsrit

Förengsrit

An ancient Æld'Norai blood ritual nigh as old as the people themselves. To perform it is to bind yourself to another forevermore.

Description

In lieu of a tradition like marriages, the closest thing Ælves have is Förengsrit, and it is more than simply a social and legal contract. Ælven pairs are able to form a covenant between themselves that is not dissimilar to the one formed between Ældrassil and their ancestors at the inception of their race. It is also not always done for romantic reasons, as platonic love is equally valued and respected in Ælheim.

The Process

The covenant is performed by each participant cutting open their palm and clasping their hands together while within the confines of a specific ritual site deep within the boughs of the dragon-tree. Mysteriously, the bond does not work if performed elsewhere. Some opt to perform this ritual privately, while others will throw lavish parties surrounding the act; that choice is left up to the people involved.

Ælves tied together through Förengsrit are thereby soulbound, and their connection to one another traverses any distance.
One or both parties must have Expert or higher Animism, or else they must request the services of a third party with the requisite skill level in order to facilitate the bond.

Mechanics

In order to acquire the bond of Förengsrit, both parties must purchase a Minor Merit. At that point, putting experience into the Saolbond will unlock further effects.

Total Experience Invested

25 Experience: The pair are able to communicate with one another by projecting their emotions into the other and will share one another's pain.
75 Experience: The pair are able to transfer their wounds from one to the other.
150 Experience: They may use their tether to travel great distances, utilizing their shared Saol to traverse it and manifest by their partner's side.
250 Experience: At this tier, even death cannot part them. They are able to pull the soul of their departed to them through their tether and even revive them.
To revive, one must bring the departed soul back to the ritual site in Ældrassil wherein they first became bound.
