Character Duties
Overview
A 'Duty' is an umbrella term that covers PC endeavors which garner enough influence to affect the world around the PC, give them substantial enough power to warrant affecting a PC's Seasonal Points or generate a significant amount of Alkahest.
- When utilizing the below systems, PCs may only receive SP benefits from one Primary Duty.
- Secondary Duties, such as Alkahest Mines, may be used in addition to a Primary Duty but each follow their own rules.
A PC or CNPC may have any mix of Duties for purposes of plot so long as the above OOC parameters are
abided by and the combination is approved by the region's Storteller.
Primary Duties
Primary Duties are used to heavily enhance a PC's ability to generate Seasonal Points. Currently, Primary Duties consist of the following:
Titles
Depending on the setting, a PC may expend a Minor or Major Merit in order to acquire Titles that confer unto them various benefits.
- The cost of an individual Title will be listed next to that respective Title on its relevant page, and the Title must be tied to the Player Character's skills to utilize this system, not a CNPC's.
- PCs and CNPCs may in some cases acquire titles without Merit or XP expenditure for purposes of plot, but these do not modulate SP.
For requirements to acquire specific Titles, see the following:
If you do not see your region listed or a Title that fits your needs, feel free to reach out to a relevant Storyteller and they will set one up for you!
Enterprise
An Enterprise is a game mechanic for anything resembling a business, job, or the like; it can range from something akin to a small, family owned operation to a large, multifaceted organization.
- It costs one Minor Merit to start an Enterprise, and the Enterprise must be tied to the Player Character's skills for benefit, not a CNPC's.
- They can be expanded by investing in the XP track or by the trading in the initial Minor Merit for a Major Merited Development.
Please note that upgrading to an Enterprise worthy of a Major Merit should be something you discuss
with the region's Storyteller.
Scope
Unlike Titles, Enterprises have a 'Scope' to them, and must cap their size and influence per their Scope tier. Each tier of Scope is unlocked at a specific XP benchmark, but your Enterprise does not automatically upgrade. You must plot out your expansion IRP through writing and have it canonized before your new Scope can apply.
In some cases and in some places, it is not possible to reach maximum Scope; please consult with a
relevant Regional Storyteller before attempting to advance beyond Regional.
- Tiers
- Small: 0 XP
- A 'small' Enterprise is something like a small, family owned business with only one establishment.
- Local: 250 XP
- A 'local' Enterprise would have either one medium to large sized establishment or a handful of small ones.
- Regional: 500 XP
- A 'regional' Enterprise can have up to a handful of medium to large establishments or more if each is smaller smattered across a region of the map.
- National: 750 XP
- A 'national' Enterprise has enough establishments of any size to span a whole nation.
- World: 1000 XP
- A 'world' Enterprise is so grand that it may have establishments open across different jurisdictions.

Experience Track
A player may choose to invest XP into their PC's Primary Duty with a cap of up to 1000 XP.
- Every 50 XP invested adds 10 to a PC's SP multiplier.
- Every 200 XP invested awards a Formation Merit OR an additional 25 SP to a PC's SP multiplier.
- Reaching 1000 XP invested adds 60 SP to a PC’s SP multiplier.
To track this, please add a line on your Skills Sheet/Table where you will record the amount of XP
invested.
Major Development
A Major Development is earned from a Major Merited Title or trading in your Enteprise's base Minor Merit for a Major Merit. This confers specific CNPCs, Formations, or other merited facilities like an additional Alkahest Mine at a level of development determined by the local Storyteller without a need for further XP investment. A Storyteller would have up to 2,000 XP to work with when assigning these bonuses.
- What a Major Development confers should have a write-up by the Storyteller which the player can link to on their Character Sheet somewhere in the forum. These benefits may be expanded upon by a player using their own experience, but the additions are lost should they lose the title.
- All Major Merited titles are earned through IRP quests alongside a Storyteller, and may be confiscated by a local Storyteller if a player fails to make an in-character post during a season, or if local developments render these benefits unfeasible.
Secondary Duties
Secondary Duties provide a PC with additional avenues for raw Alkahest generation. At present, there is only one option classed as a Secondary Duty.
Alkahest Mines
Alkahest Mines are Duties which generate Alkahest but do not increase a player's SP generation.
- Exceptions exist for narratively flavoring Alkahest Mines as other ventures.
