Grovewright, Verdant Artifice

Always striving to maintain a close connection to nature, the Æld'Norai craftsmen use only organic materials and follow strict design protocols.

Grovewright follows all of the same rules and instructions associated with its parent Practice, Artifice. The following information outlines only the differences between the two. If you are looking for how to use Grovewright for crafting, see the guidelines set within the parent page and simply apply the below modifications.

Restrictions

Whilst a standard Artificer might find their only limitations being their creativity and resources, all Grovewrights must abide by several rules and restrictions imposed by the Grovewright Consortium-- a small organization led by the eldest and most brilliant of its practitioners.

On Materials

The strictest, most heavily enforced rule is that only materials sourced from flora may be used.

Whilst this may sound restrictive, do note the following make this not quite as limiting as one might think at first blush:
  • Alchemistry may modify the properties of any given material, so a Grovewright-Alchemist or simply working with one has a lot of flexibility.
  • Plants on Antarok have a lot of fun properties that may mimic non-organic materials.
  • Given the prevalence of Draoidh, access to materials is incredibly easy for most Æld'Norai.
Feel free to reach out to Lorekeeper Vicissitude with questions, as well as guided quests where you may end up receiving resources for your crafts at no SP charge to you. The Æld'Norai are happy to lift one another up!

On Design

There are design guides penned by the Grovewright Consortium that keep the bulk of many types of crafts, such as a weapons and armor, stylistically consistent regardless of author. This is because the designs are intended to look organic and harmonious with what is culturally accepted aesthetically at any given time. Periodically, these guides may update-- but whether that be every 10 or 100 or even 1000 years, one can never say.

As an OOC note, generally err on the side of crafts appearing 'druidic', 'organic' or 'natural' in appearance. If you aren't sure, reach out in the Discord. This isn't exceptionally strict; it's only meant to keep away designs that veer too far into sci-fi territory.

Acquiring Grovewright

Grovewright is a relatively closed practice, with materials concerning how their products are made kept squirreled away and lorded over by those within the Grovewright Consortium. If an individual Æld'Norai wishes to learn the practice, they must apply for it. The approval process is somewhat esoteric, as it depends on a few things.

  • If there are any Grovewright masters (or grandmasters) currently taking apprentices at all.
  • If available master(s) get along with the applicant, as the process of learning is long and the apprentice and master would be expected to spend a lot of time together.
  • If the applicant passes a season-long trial working under the master.
